Life is also about taking a few days out of the calendar and doing what makes you happy. It was exactly what I did, when I booked a trip to London. I have always loved theater and wanted to become an actor in my younger days. Life chose to go another way than to become an actress, but my joy and interest for the theater will always remain a part of my life. The theater will always have a very special place in my heart. What makes the theater so unique is that we for few hours can dream ourselves into a completely different world.
The purpose of my trip to London was to go to the theater and see the play "All About Eve" with Lily James. My niece and I came to London on February 28, 2019 and stayed there for two days. We stayed at the Thistle Piccadilly Hotel in the center of London, really a great location. Of course, we started going to Primark, which is a must when visiting London. We were there for two hours and had hands filled with bags when we came out.
Since we both have been to London many times before, we didn't need to go sightseeing. This trip was purely shopping and theater tour. We walked in and out of the hotel with bags and other good things. We stayed 5 minutes from the Noël Coward Theater, where I was going to see "All About Eve”, so I went happy and very excited to the theater. I was looking forward to seeing Lily James performing on a theater stage. I have previously seen her in Downton Abbey, on film and not least in Mamma Mia - Here We Go Again. She is an excellent and talented actress and despite of her young age, she can play the great roles with great achievement. It was a little bit unreal that I was going to see the play, which I had been waiting to see for four months. It was really a great experience to see this amazing play. What a good cast and Lily James proved once again, that she is a great actress who can play all sorts of roles whether it is on film or in the theater. She played the role of Eve very well and convincingly. Even though I might be too old to meet actors, I decided to go to stage door to meet Lily. Suddenly she came out and I praised her for her theater performance in the show. She was very sweet, humble and accommodating. It was a great experience to meet her and it may seem crazy that I in my age will greet a known person. But conversely, it is the little different moments in life, that we must remember to appreciate.
After nearly 20 km of walking in London's street and a couple of hours in the theater, I was tired and overwhelmed by all the amazing experiences the day had brought. So I went to bed and was already looking forward to the next day in lovely London. We started the day looking at the shops and then we went to the Hotel Ritz to have afternoon tea. What a beautiful place and I almost didn't dare to enter the fine hotel :-) Although we were neither fine or rich, the service was fantastic and I felt for a while that I was something special. It was a huge experience that I will never forget. We went to Primark to shop again after we had finished our afternoon tea at the Ritz. From being in a fine and rich hotel, we now stood in Primark and bought cheap clothes and shoes. Later on, we had dinner at a restaurant, that was right next to The Coward Theater.
After breakfast the next day, we went to Oxford Street to shop. Before we went to London, I had a wish to have dinner at Sketch. It is a restaurant with five different themes. The Gallery is completely pink and I really wanted to have dinner there, but it was sold out. We chose instead to have lunch in the Palour restaurant. It was great food and there was a good service. The most fun and different on Sketch are their toilets. Each toilet is shaped like an egg. It should be seen when visiting Sketch, because it is an experience out of the ordinary. Without thinking about it, I chose to go to the theater and see "All About Eve" again. maybe not the smartest idea when we later had to fly back to Denmark. But I took the chance and we agreed to meet at the hotel at 17.00. I had an even better seat in the theater than the first time I saw the play. I sat very close to the stage, 4 row in the middle. It was just amazing to see the performance so close. I could better see the actor's mimicry and the small details of the performance that I couldn't see the first time. Unfortunately, the play started a little later than it should, so I had to walk ten minutes before it ended. We were really busy, because we were going to fly back to Copenhagen at 19.25 and the gate would be closed at 19:00. We took a taxi to Liverpool Station and then the train to Standsted Airport. We got on the plane 5 minutes before the gate closed. The next day I slept all day, but it had been such a great trip.
